No wonder Betty White is called the “first lady of television.”

In 1939, at age 17, she sang and danced on an early experimental Los Angeles broadcast. Her first big break came a decade later with Hollywood on Television. On the air live for five and a half hours, six days per week, White co-produced the show, sang, improvised comedy, chatted with guests — and even performed the commercials.

On March 27, join USPS in celebrating this enduring star with the release of the Betty White stamp, now available for pre-order.

Of her many contributions to entertainment, Betty White is best known for roles on two of the greatest sitcoms in TV history: The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s and The Golden Girls from 1985 to 1992. An avid animal ally, White used the bright light of her stardom to advocate for creatures great and small.
