Romance Flocks to Arkansas
The small town that fills the mail with love
Love stamps often debut at places with love-themed names — so when the Post Office in Romance, Arkansas, hosted the dedication ceremony for a stamp in the long-running series on January 12, 2024, they were supporting a local tradition that attracts widespread attention.

A postmark from Romance has long been popular for Arkansans sending out Valentine’s Day cards or wedding invitations, but requests for the local postmark sometimes come from across the country and around the world. In 1990, the town welcomed visitors for the first-day ceremony for a Love stamp featuring a paper-cut bird design inspired by New England and Pennsylvania folk art.
With its digital illustration by Katie Kirk, the 2024 Love stamp makes for an interesting bird-themed collectible to pair with the 1990 stamp, especially if both have been postmarked in the small town with the big goal of spreading more love in the world.
