About This Stamp

This American Circus stamp honors the American circus and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Ringling. One of eight children, Ringling worked with four of his brothers to form the Ringling Brothers Circus. The brothers purchased the Barnum and Bailey Circus in 1907; their two circus troupes performed separately until they merged their shows in 1919.
