About This Stamp

A 22-cent U.S. commemorative stamp and a 37-cent Australian stamp honoring the bicentennial of the founding of Australia was issued January 26, 1988, in Washington, D.C., and Sydney, Australia. The U.S. stamp became available at post offices nationwide the next business day. Both stamps feature artwork by graphic artist Roland Harvey of Fitzroy, Victoria, who is widely known in Australia as an illustrator of children's books.

This issue is the first joint stamp issuance for Australia, the first between the two nations, and the 19th such event for the U.S. Postal Service.

The stamp in pane of 40 was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in the gravure process.
