About This Stamp
This Liberty issue stamp depicts Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1706. As a young man, he worked as a printer’s apprentice, eventually owning the Pennsylvania Gazette and publishing Poor Richard’s Almanack. On July 26, 1775, the Second Continental Congress established the United States Post Office and named Benjamin Franklin as the first United States Postmaster General. He was also an influential figure during the American Revolutionary War period.
