"China Clipper" over the Pacific

The China Clipper was the first of a series of flying boats owned by Pan American airways that crisscrossed the Pacific beginning in 1935. The China Clipper’s inaugural flight coincided with the issuance of a new 25-cent airmail stamp. And the enthusiasm for the flight included enthusiasm for the stamps, which were the bestselling stamps to date. The stamps pictured the Martin M-130 clipper along with the inscription “November 1935.”
