About This Stamp
This stamp was issued on the 150th anniversary of the Coast and Geodetic Survey, which aids sailors and engineers by making contour maps. In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson signed a bill for the Survey of the Coast. The project took decades and became even bigger as the young United States expanded rapidly to the Pacific Ocean.
