About This Stamp

A 20-cent coil stamp drawing attention to the importance of consumer education was issued April 27, 1982, in Washington, D.C. The design was unveiled October 6, 1980, at the White House.

The design, conceived by artist John Boyd of New York City, features a tag of the type often found attached to garments and relays the message, "Wise shoppers stretch dollars." Mr. Boyd also designed the 1981 Alcoholism stamp and the Blinded Veterans embossed stamped envelope. The stamp was printed in the intaglio process.
