Dante Alighieri

This issuance features a portrait of Dante Alighieri, based off of a 16th-century painting. Born in the mid-13th century in Italy, Dante was a writer, poet, and statesman. He is considered one of the greatest figures in Western literature. His poem The Divine Comedy — written in an Italian vernacular — is perhaps one of his most well-known works.
