About This Stamp

The 28-cent brown on blue 1978 stamp of the Americana issue commemorates the westward settlement movement. The design shows Fort Nisqually with the wording "Remote Outpost — New Nation Building Westward." Fort Nisqually was a Hudson's Bay Company fur trading outpost. Established in 1833, it was the first European settlement on Puget Sound, located at present day Tacoma, Washington.
