About This Stamp

This Liberty issue stamp depicts Independence Hall, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It received its name because of its role as the meeting place for the Second Continental Congress of the United States, the group that drafted and adopted the Declaration of Independence. Prior to this, the building served as the legislature for the Province of Pennsylvania, then eventually the Pennsylvania State House. It was designed by Edmund Woolley and Andrew Hamilton, and built by Woolley between 1732 and 1753. It is currently run by the National Park Service and is a World Heritage Site.
