About This Stamp
The 1990 Traditional Christmas stamp depicts Antonello da Messina's (c. 1430–1479) Madonna and Child. The stamp dedication took place at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., which houses the original artwork. Designed by Bradbury Thompson, the stamps were issued in panes of 50 stamps and booklets of 20. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing printed the stamps by the offset/intaglio process.
