New Jersey Tercentenary

This New Jersey Tercentenary stamp commemorates the 300th anniversary of the colonization of New Jersey by the English in 1664. It was named after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey. New Jersey was one of the original 13 colonies to revolt against British rule during the American Revolution. The colony obtained statehood in 1787. The stamp features an image of the colony’s first governor, Philip Carteret, landing at Elizabethtown, which became the seat of government for the colony, and an image of the map of New Jersey.
