About This Stamp

The Postal Service issued a Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm stamp July 2, 1991, in Washington, D.C., honoring the members of the Armed Forces who served in the Persian Gulf in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Designed by Jack Williams, the stamp depicts the Southwest Asia Service Medal, established by Presidential Executive Order in March 1991.

The stamp was issued in a pane of 50 and a booklet of 20. Stamp Venturers, Inc., manufactured stamp sheets in the gravure process, and the American Bank Note Company produced stamp booklets also in the gravure process.
