Physical Fitness-Sokols

This Physical Fitness-Sokol stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Sokol athletic organization in the United States and promotes the importance of physical fitness. The Sokol movement originated in Austria-Hungary and, much like the Turner movement of Germany, made its way to the United States in the 19th century from Czechoslovakian immigrants. The stamp features an image of a sculpture of a male discus thrower.
