About This Stamp

The Postal Service issued a $2.90 Eagle Priority Mail stamp on July 7, 1991, in San Diego, California, in conjunction with the U.S. Olympic Festival torch run. The Postal Service was a worldwide sponsor of the 1992 Olympic Games.

The stamp features a profile of a bald eagle with $2.90 USA in two lines of red type and the Olympic rings printed in red against the black background. This stamp denomination met the domestic rate for priority mail up to two pounds.

Designed by Terrence McCaffrey, the stamps were printed in the offset/intaglio process by the American Bank Note Company and issued in panes of 20.
