About This Stamp
This stamp features a portrait of Robert Fulton and an image of the Clermont steamboat. Fulton was an American inventor and engineer and is credited as developing the first commercially successful steamboat, the Clermont, also known as the North River Steamboat. It operated on the Hudson River between New York City and Albany. He also designed the first practical submarine, the Nautilus, and the first modern naval torpedoes.
