Soo Locks

This Soo Locks stamp commemorates the centenary of the opening of the Soo Locks. The locks run parallel to each other and connect Lake Huron and Lake Superior along the St. Mary's River. The locks are named after the two cities named Sault Sainte Marie, located on either side of the St. Mary’s River — one in the United States and one in Canada. The canals are part of the St. Lawrence Seaway and are a major shipping route. The stamp features an image of a map of the Great Lakes and two steamer ships.
