About This Stamp

The Postal Service commemorated the drama and pageantry of horses involved in polo, steeplechase, harness, and track racing with the issuance of a block of four 29-cent stamps on May 1, 1993, in Louisville, Kentucky. The stamps were issued at Churchill Downs in conjunction with the running of the 119th Kentucky Derby.

Designed by artist Michael Dudash of Moretown, Vermont, the stamps with panes of 40 were printed in the offset/intaglio process by Stamp Venturers, Inc.
