About This Stamp

Postmaster General William F. Bolger issued a 20-cent commemorative stamp saluting the 200th anniversary year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between The Netherlands and the United States on April 20, 1982, in Washington, D.C. Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands dedicated two Netherlands stamps during the same ceremony to honor this bicentennial event.

Gert Dumbar, a prominent artist in the Hague, Netherlands, designed all three stamps. Each stamp features the red, white, and blue colors which appear in the flags of both countries. The modeler was Peter Cocci. The stamp was printed in the photogravure process, with 50 stamps per pane.
