About This Stamp

The Postal Service issued a 5-dollar stamp on August 19, 1994, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, at the American Philatelic Society's annual stamp show. The stamp was developed from a design created in 1869 by the National Bank Note Co. It was originally prepared, but not used, for the 1869 U.S. postage series. The central image or vignette features a portrait of George Washington and Andrew Jackson.

The stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by Stamp Venturers, Inc., and issued in panes of 20.
